WITH the Prime Minister Boris Johnson advising this week that people should avoid 'pubs, clubs and theatres', it was only a matter of time before Bridgwater felt the impact.

Today (Tuesday, March 17) The McMillan Theatre in Bridgwater announced that all events and shows due to be held at the venue have been suspended.

A spokesman for The McMillan Theatre said: "We appreciate this will be disappointing news, but hope customers will understand the unprecedented nature of the current circumstances.

"Ultimately the health and wellbeing of all is the most important consideration at this time.

"We will be posting further statements over the coming days about the status of forthcoming shows.

"Where performances do not proceed we will make contact with customers at the appropriate time to advise on the next steps.

"We would ask all customers to refrain from contacting the Box Office unless absolutely necessary to do so.

"Please be assured that we are working as quickly as possible to understand the implications and to put appropriate steps in place."

Bridgwater Operatic Society has postponed its production of Made in Dagenham in May 2021.

A spokesman for Bridgwater Operatic Society said: "This will obviously impact on those who have already booked tickets.

"If you do need to have your ticket money refunded please telephone the Box Office on 01278662181 and our box office manager Sue Pomeroy will be happy to help and discuss any queries.

"Our own disappointment is huge and we send good wishes to all our colleagues in amateur theatre nationwide who find themselves in the same position.

"Best wishes to all our audience members, we wish you good health in our nations struggle with this dreadful epidemic."
