The mayor of North Petherton, Cllr Alan Bradford, recently presented a cheque for £420 to Karen Boswell of Carymoor Environmental Trust, after the money was raised at North Petherton Town Council’s Civic Service.

The theme for the Service was ‘Caring for our Environment’ and Carymoor offers Somerset primary schools a free visit to promote the ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ message in school.

The sessions are linked to the curriculum and are practical and fun as was seen when Karen, a member of Carymoor’s education team, spent the afternoon with pupils at North Newton Community Primary School.

It was decided to make the presentation at North Newton Community Primary School where Freya Bult is a pupil.

Freya, now aged 10, was awarded a Junior Achievement Award by North Petherton Council in 2019 for designing a solar powered water irrigation system for a community in Zimbabwe without access to electricity.

The previous week Cllr Bradford visited North Petherton Primary School to sit in on another presentation by Carymoor.

Cllr Bradford said he was impressed by the pupils at both schools who showed real enthusiasm for the issue of recycling.
