PLANS to build 105 new homes on land near Haygrove School have been meet with objections from two community leaders.

Previously, planning permission had been granted for a two-phase development on land off of Haygrove Road in Bridgwater.

However, there has been an amendment to the second phase, as an application has been submitted to substitute the approved 105 David Wilson Homes for Notaro New Homes.

A decision will be made by Sedgemoor District Council’s development committee on Tuesday, March 3, after two ward councillors objected to the plans.

Councillors Gill Slocombe and Rachael Lilley, who represent the Durleigh ward, have submitted a joint objection, which states: “As ward councillors we know the above application is a variation of the original planning application and the number of homes remains unchanged.

“We do however want to raise specifically the issue of traffic and the volumes of vehicles in Haygrove Road particularly during term time and especially during school hours.

“Consideration needs to be given to the location of the school (Haygrove) and its close proximity to the development.

“There has already been an increase in vehicles in Haygrove Road due to the number of new properties built on the development so far and therefore we really do need to be mindful and consider this impact being exacerbated with the advent of further development on the site in question.

“We do appreciate there is a need for more housing but feel Haygrove Road is already under serious pressure due to the volumes of traffic.”

There have also 14 letters of objection from local residents, however planning officers are recommending approval for the plans stating that the ‘development now proposed does not increase the impact of the development already consented’.
