AN exciting new vision for the North Petherton Memorial Field is coming together following a public consultation exercise.

North Petherton Town Council has been looking to make improvements to the field and has come up with initial plans after taking residents thoughts into consideration.

There are plans to install specific up-to-date play equipment for younger and older children, a multi-use games area, outdoor gym and fitness equipment, all linked by a perimeter track.

There will also be landscaping, new trees and wildflower areas, with plenty of seating and picnic benches.

The existing wall will be developed by the community to form a partially covered arts and performing space for young people.

The council say the community will also develop a further area for older members of the community incorporating a boules pitch.

A spokesman for North Petherton Town Council said: “Discussions have been taking place about all this with experts in the field and with national suppliers, who are being invited to submit their own designs and tenders for the whole project, while the necessary funding is being raised.

“The project team have been working very hard to achieve all this so that the actual construction work by the chosen supplier can start in early summer of this year, with the aim of the Memorial Park being open and in use by the autumn.”

The Memorial Field was gifted to the people of North Petherton as a permanent playing field in commemoration of those local servicemen and women who lost their lives as a result of the Second World War.

To mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day a ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 8, followed by a celebration event of the field itself.
