MORE than 3 tonnes of waste has been removed from a site in Glastonbury.

Mendip District Council has cleared 3.5 tonnes of waste at Pomparles Bridge as part of an ongoing fly-tipping enforcement campaign.

The operation, which took place on January 6, saw workers spend 90 minutes clearing the area, which was badly hit by flooding late last year.

Leader of Mendip District Council, Cllr Ros Wyke, said: "We are pleased to report that the waste has been removed, which is good news.

"However, we are working to find a long-term solution for this site."

The dumping of waste (fly tipping) and dropping of litter is illegal and both are punishable by a fine.

People can report dumped waste via www.mendip.gov.uk, or by calling 0300 303 8588.
