TWO people were taken to hospital and a garage was badly fire damaged after a fire at a property in Tatworth.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called at 1.35pm on Friday (December 13) following reports of a fire at a property in Tatworth Street.

Crews from Chard and Axminster were sent to the scene.

On arrival, crews confirmed there was a fire in the garage of the property and quickly got to work using two breathing apparatus and one compressed air foam jet.

Two more breathing apparatus wearers and another hose reel jet was sent into the property and the officer in charge requested for two more fire engines to come to the scene.

These came from Ilminster and Crewkerne, along with the incident command vehicle from Honiton.

At 2.05pm the officer in charge requested a further two fire engines, which came from Ottery St Mary and Lyme Regis along with an incident support unit from Yeovil.

A spokesperson for the fire service, said: "This was a fire involving the garage of a domestic property, which was attached to the house.

"The garage sustained 100 per cent fire damage, the remainder of the adjoining property suffered with approx. 10 per cent smoke damage and 5 per cent water damage.

"The fire was extinguished using six breathing apparatus wearers, 1 compressed air foam jet, three hose reel jets, two main jets, one safety jet, three thermal imaging cameras, two triple extension ladders, two roof ladders and safety at height equipment.

"Two casualties were treated on scene by ambulance crews, two further casualties were conveyed to hospital all having suffered with smoke inhalation.

"Approximately 2,000 litres of domestic fuel from a ruptured fuel tank was also dealt with."
