People in Bridgwater and West Somerset will have a chance to quiz some of the constituency's General Election candidates in Bridgwater on Sunday evening.

Local pro-Europe group Somerset Loves Europe is organising the meeting amid concerns that no public hustings had so far been arranged in the constituency.

The hustings, which will be on Brexit and other topics of concern to local people, will take place at Bridgwater Arts Centre, Castle Street, Bridgwater from 7pm to 8.45pm on Sunday, December 8.

All five candidates have been invited, with Bill Revans (Liberal Democrats), Mickie Ritchie (Greens) and Oliver Thornton (Labour) so far confirmed.

Conservative candidate Ian Liddell-Grainger has confirmed he will not be attending.

Paul Adams, chair of Somerset Loves Europe, said: “Bridgwater and West Somerset constituents have been complaining of a total absence of hustings open to members of the public.

"Brexit is the reason the Government has called this General Election on December 12 and so we wanted to give local residents an opportunity - in many cases, the only one they will have - to put their questions on Europe and other subjects directly to the candidates. Everyone is welcome.”
