THREE witnesses are wanted to police after a woman in her 80s had her handbag stolen in Bridgwater town centre.

The incident occurred on November 16, from 11am and 11.30am.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "The victim – a woman in her 80s – had gone into the town to do some shopping.

"She withdrew some cash from the bank which she put in her handbag.

"She then went to Bastins, where she was approached by a woman, who asked for her help to read a message on a card.

"The victim went to pay for goods she had bought and then noticed her bag was missing and reported this to her bank, who confirmed that a cash withdrawal had been made.

"We are appealing for anyone who might have been in or near to Bastins at the time of the incident, who may have seen anything which may help our enquiries."

The victim uses a walking frame to help her get around.

The spokesman added: "We believe the three people pictured may have been in the area at the time who may be able to assist us with our enquiries.

"We would like them, or anyone recognising them to contact us quoting reference 5219265447.

"We would remind people who are shopping to ensure that any wallets or purses are secure and out of sight.

"Remain vigilant and ensure you are not being watched during cash transactions. Ensure if you make a payment by debit or credit card that you cover the keypad so that your PiN number cannot be seen."
