GAS supplier Wales and West Utilities has been hit with a £4,363.50 bill for breaking the law during work in Burnham-on-Sea.
The Newport-based company pleaded guilty to the offence in Berrow Road on August 22 this year.
It had been charged with executing street works on the maintainable highway in contravention of a direction on timing given by the street authority.
The company was fined £3,000 and ordered to pay a £181 victim surcharge and £1,182.50 costs for breaching the Roads and Street Works Act 1991.
A a spokesperson for Wales & West Utilities said: “We are sorry for the disruption to the road network this error caused.
“Whether it’s responding to gas emergencies, connecting new homes and businesses, or upgrading the gas network, we work closely with local highways authorities to arrange our work.
“We successfully complete more than 12,000 jobs a year where the timing of our work is directed by the relevant local highways authority. We regret that on this occasion an administrative oversight on our part meant that we got the timing wrong. We have reviewed our internal processes to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
