If ever there was evidence that age shouldn't be a barrier, then just marvel at Evelyn, a 102 year old resident from Somerset Care’s Oak Trees residential home, in Bridgwater.

Evelyn recently embarked on an innocent stroll with fellow residents in the local park.

However, things began to take an unexpected turn as she started to express an interest in the park playground apparatus.

One thing led to another, and with support from carers, she ended up going on the trampoline, the swings and even sat on a real motorbike.

We caught up with Evelyn, who explained what urged her to defy her years: “I don’t really know what came over me, but the opportunity presented itself and I thought why not.

"The carers were happy to support and help me, so we went for it.

"To sit on a motorbike after all these years was a real treat.

"I would like to thank everyone at Oak Trees for their constant care and support, it really is a great place to live.”

Sharon Payne, manager at Oak Trees was quick to praise Evelyn, “Evelyn really is an amazing woman. As with most residents, there are days when they are less upbeat than others, but when the mood takes them there is no limit to what they can achieve.

"All we can do is encourage and support them to do what they want to do, when they want to do it.”
