THE Turnip Prize is a spoof art award of the Turner Prize based at The New Inn pub in Wedmore and entries are now open for this year’s coveted title.

Now in its 20th year, it began in 1999 as a response to Tracy Emin’s unmade bed, which was exhibited at the Tate Gallery that year.

The entries are judged on bad puns and the lack of effort put into making the ‘artwork’.

Famous winning entries include 2010’s Chilli ‘n’ minors - which was a large chilli with three smaller chillis, and Ewe Kip, which was a sleeping sheep.

Entries for the 2020 edition will be accepted from November 1 at The New Inn, Wedmore, BS28 4DU, with participants asked to provide a pseudonym and contact phone number.

The closing date for entries will be Thursday, November 21.

Preliminary judging will take place on Sunday, November 24 and final judging on December 3.
