A CHARITY which helps young people and children needing mental health support has been boosted by a £1,000 donation from the Thatchers Foundation.

The Community Project at Somewhere House in Burnham-on-Sea was set up in 2011 to work with and improve the lives of young people and children living locally.

The project has established four local hubs where meetings can be held in a friendly and calm environment so people can get counselling, help and advice in a safe and informal way.

The £1,000 donation from The Thatchers Foundation will be used to pay for more counselling for young people and families living in and around Burnham-on-Sea.

Angie Clarke, who set up Somewhere House, said: “There’s an increasing need for the type of counselling we are able to provide and although we originally started the Community Project for the local area, we are now receiving referrals from further afield too.”

Counsellors from Somewhere House also visit local schools and colleges to give talks and advice to students.

Kelli Coxhead, trustee of the Thatchers Foundation, said: “One thing that really comes across when you meet Angie and Rob is the quality of support that is offered by the trained counsellors.

"Whilst there’s no formal charge for the service that the charity offers the young people in need, they do ask that people give what they can afford for the counselling.

"That’s why donations such as the one the Thatchers Foundation is able to give for the running of the hubs and school talks, are so vitally important to keep the charity running.”
