Someone was looking down on Falmouth this morning and smiling as 1,700 women stayed dry for this year's Race for Life in the town.

Despite ominous forecasts, there was just one shower as the women warmed up in the Gyllyngvase Beach car park, the start of the 5km/3m circular route along Cliff Road, around Pendennis Point and back again.

And as the grandmothers, mums, sisters and daughters lined up ready for the 11am start, a shaft of sun broke through the clouds and shone down upon them.

Races are held around the country every year to race money for Cancer Research UK.
