Falmouth’s Killigrew Street post office closed for the last time this afternoon.

After being earmarked for closure since September but unsure of a permanent date because of the unclear future of the main post office on The Moor, staff and customers at Killigrew Street finally knew where they stood as the post office shut its doors at 1pm.

John Marven, former sub-postmaster at Killigrew Street said: “In some ways it’s a relief to know where we stand after a very what has been a very stressful two years.

“We were originally due to close on October 28 but we were still here until the following April because of the uncertainty with the Falmouth post office. That issue has still not been resolved so in many ways my work has been done in vain.

“It’s a very sad day for me and a very sad day for the people of Falmouth who used this post office.”

When asked what he would do now, Mr Marven said that he had no idea and probably join the other two-million people unemployed.
