A HOUSING scheme at Hayle Harbour has been shortlisted in the Housing Design Awards 2020.

The construction process at North Quay began earlier this year, with visions to create "an exciting and vibrant new coastal quarter".

The scheme will introduce newly designed homes, shops and open spaces, set within a waterside location near Gwithian Towans beach.

The North Quay project was designed by architects and urban designers Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios and has been shortlisted in the ‘project’ category in the housing awards.

The development is being built by Corinthian Homes.

Simon Wright, CEO of Corinthian Homes Group, said: “It is great to see North Quay shortlisted alongside some of the best schemes in the country.

"This early recognition of what we are trying to achieve here is a tribute to the inspiration, innovation and hard work of the entire project team and in particular that of our architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios.”

Once complete, the aim is for North Quay to become a focal point for further phases of the regeneration for people living and working in Hayle, which neighbours St Ives and wider West Cornwall.

It will feature approximately 140 properties over 11 buildings, with more than 30 per cent of released properties already secured at the first phase buyers launch.

Phase 1 also includes the development of North Quay Square, which will host events all year round, and 20 retail units for offices, shops and restaurants.

Simon said: “Our aim from the outset has been to deliver a high quality project which greatly enhances the local area and its economy, protects and promotes its heritage, and puts Hayle Harbour on the map as a desirable residential, visitor, business and investment destination.”

The results of the Housing Design Awards 2020 are due to be announced at an awards ceremony on Wednesday, September 2.
