Helston's minor injuries unit has temporarily closed as the hospital takes on a new role as part of the response to COVID-19

Helston Community Hospital is to become the Frailty Step Down Unit, with the first patient already having been admitted, according to the Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust website.

The hospital's 20 beds will be reserved to care for patients recovering from the coronavirus who have no further need for acute care but who need further looking after until they can be discharged back to their homes.

It means the hospital's minor injuries unit has been closed with immediate effect, with the nearest facilities now being Camborne Redruth Community Hospital, which is open from 8am to 10pm, and Falmouth Community Hospital, which is open from 8am to 8pm.
