Community radio station Source FM and Falmouth University journalism department have teamed up to make a daily radio programme of good news amidst the Coronavirus crisis.

Using online resources to find stories and record interviews, students are producing a variety of reports every day.

So far, they have reported on projects to deliver food, keep footballers fit at home, find accommodation for key workers, celebrate a local student nurse and the Salvation Army.

One of the highlights is a report on a local woman who’s been feeding a robin on Pendennis Point. She can no longer travel there but has found a willing community to help feed the bird while she self-isolates.

Source approached the University via technician Ivor Richards, who already works on projects such as Park Live.
They wanted to produce a daily show to highlight the many positive efforts that the community in Falmouth and Penryn are undertaking to help cope with the pandemic.

Journalism lecturer Kevin Bishop put together a team of twelve or so students, with Kevin acting as newsgathering editor, a role he used to perform for the BBC, and Ivor as technical lead.

Kevin Bishop said: “At a time of national emergency it’s great to see Falmouth journalism students step up to the plate and produce such quality reports, especially as they are often in self isolation themselves.

"As well as making a real positive contribution to the community, it will serve them well for their CVs and portfolios in the future."

The bulletin is broadcast at 8am and repeated at 1pm with a compilation at the weekend.
