A fundraising campaign for the NHS has been set up encouraging every person in Cornwall to donate £1 and raise more than half a million pounds.

It has been set up by Natalie Pain and Louise Hopes, from Helston, who hope that by donating a pound each during lockdown Cornwall's residents can help fund equipment and support frontline health workers.

They said: "We would like every resident of Cornwall to donate a pound if at all possible. The idea is to show our support for our local hospital at this time and to invest in our own health now and in the future.

"We fully support the NHS and in these difficult times we want to give just a little bit more. We have all been patients and known patients."

The money will be given to the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity and can be donated at justgiving.com/fundraising/Louise-Hopes1

Louise has three people in her household so has donated £3 while Natalie has decided to donate £5 for the two people in her house.

"Please do what you can. When you donate patients are diagnosed and treated faster, families and loved ones are more comfortable, all through generous support given to Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity.
"Advancements and innovations in healthcare provision help return patients back to health quicker, yet are hard to predict.

"Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity capitalises on these advancements by purchasing state-of-the-art equipment, conducting innovative research, and providing healing environments as soon as they are available," they added.

"Let's do something positive while we are inside for Covid-19."
