Nominations are being invited for Camborne’s first Community and Commerce Awards.

Organised by BID Camborne and Camborne Town Council, the awards will recognise exceptional individual, group and business contributions.

“There is so much in Camborne to celebrate and we thought this would be a wonderful way of acknowledging what so many people are doing to make our town a lovely place to live and work in,” said BID (Business Improvement District) manager Anna Pascoe.

“We pride ourselves on having a very strong community spirit in Camborne that encourages local residents to support and help each other as much as they can.

"Some go above and beyond what might be expected to make life easier and better for neighbours and our hardworking business owners are similarly passionate about keeping our high street alive and thriving. This is an opportunity to highlight what is going on and to say a public thank you to all those involved.”

The community award categories include young achiever, community volunteer, community group of the year, outstanding contribution to sport and outstanding contribution to the arts.

Commerce awards categories include best small business, best medium business, best large business, best employer, best environmental focus, local champion, best customer focus, best licensed premises, product of the year, service of the year and best not-for-profit business.

Sharron Lipscombe-Manley is chairman of BID Camborne and also runs a local delicatessen.

She said: “Our regular podcasts showcase different aspects of Camborne life and are proving very popular, the majority of our businesses seem to be doing well and there is strong commitment to our neighbourhood plan. Every community has its ups and downs, but I can honestly say that there is no other place in Cornwall I’d rather live or work.”

Nominations for the Community and Commerce Awards close at 12pm on Friday, March 20.

Shortlisted nominees will be contacted by Wednesday, April 15 and winners will be announced at a special event taking place at Camborne Rugby Club on Wednesday, May 6.
