Fire engines filled Falmouth seafront this morning in what appeared to be a major incident – but all was not quite as it seemed.
Falmouth Fire Stations put out a community announcement first thing to say they would be taking part in a simulated exercise today at one of the apartment buildings in Cliff Road.

A spokesperson said: "We will be carrying out a simulated flat fire exercise at the Fitzroy on Cliff Road in Falmouth this morning.
"Please be aware that there will be several fire service vehicles and personnel in the area."

The exercise began at around 10.30am.
The station has now spoken more about the need for such training, saying: “Training at our risk premises is very important for an effective response.
“Thanks to the Fitzroy for allowing us to use their building.”

During the exercise crews rescued two “casualties” from the building, while in full fire fighting equipment with breathing masks.
They also used a dry riser system to supply water to the third floor, pitched a 135 ladder to the third floor and were able to test their command and control capabilities.
