LESSONS in how children should wash their hands are being given by a training provider based in Helston.

South West Skills Academy specialises in health care and has launched a hand washing campaign.

Lee Sturgess, managing director, said: "We have started this campaign to encourage children to wash their hands at appropriate times and to also make them aware of the dangers if they do not wash hands correctly.

"We will be showing the children techniques on hand washing and then they will demonstrate by washing their own hands and by using the fluorescent light will show where they are not washing correctly. Our aim is to make the sessions fun whilst learning."

Children will receive certificates on completion.

Tesco Helston is supporting the campaign and will supply a large Easter egg for the winner of each school. The winning class will also receive small eggs.

To win the prize each child will draw what they think a germ will look like.

Lee added: "We would like to give each school in the Helston area an opportunity to take part, if this is successful then we can take bookings further afield, there is no charge for this and with the current climate we feel it is important that everyone has the opportunity to take part."

It already has its first school booking on March 26 and 27.

Besides healthcare, the academy provides other courses in business administration, counselling etc.
