People living near the planned site for a 2,700-home garden village are being encouraged to look at the possible benefits it could have for them.

Cornwall Council is holding a number of events this week showing the masterplan for the Langarth Garden Village on the outskirts of Truro.

The community events are taking place across Truro and the surrounding area and an online survey is also available for people to give their views on the plans.

Dulcie Tudor, Cornwall councillor for Threemilestone and Gloweth, said she is keen for local residents to get involved and also find out about schemes which will provide new facilities for Threemilestone.

These include new sports and community facilities which have secured funding from Cornwall Council.

Cllr Tudor, who also chairs the Langarth Stakeholder Group, said: “I am calling on everyone in Threemilestone and Gloweth to come to the Langarth Garden Village public consultation event in Threemilestone Community Centre on Friday from 2pm to 7pm, so the village is not ‘left behind’ as Langarth takes shape.

“It’s important people from Threemilestone find out about, put their views in and get behind plans for four projects to improve the village to make it resilient to the Langarth Garden Village, up to 4,000 homes just across the road.”

The projects which have been supported by Cornwall Council are:

- playing fields/sports pitches near the school for local community teams to use

- a new school hall/sports hall which could also be open for the community

- improvements to Threemilestone Community Centre to make it bigger and better

- improvements to the public realm providing parking and safe and accessible links for walking and cycling across the A390 to Langarth.

Cllr Tudor added: “Unless the local community gets behind these schemes there is a chance Cornwall Council will either let them fall away or prioritise community projects in other areas.

“Whatever your view on the whole Langarth Garden Village, Friday is an opportunity for residents of Threemilestone to get something positive out of it for their own village, which, in my opinion, has not featured nearly enough in consideration of the master planning exercise.

“It is not my place to tell people what to think about the Langarth Garden Village, they must reach their own conclusions, but we can and must take action to make sure Threemilestone is ready for the ‘new town’ across the road.”

Cllr Tudor said she would be at the event in Threemilestone on Friday from 2pm to 7pm to speak to residents and answer any questions.

The Langarth Garden Village community events take place as follows:

- Wednesday, March 4, St Agnes Miners and Mechanics Hall – 2pm to 7pm

- Thursday, Chacewater Village Hall – 2pm to 7pm

- Friday, Threemilestone Community Centre – 2pm to 7pm

- Saturday, Lemon Quay – all day.
