Surprise moments of joy were brought to passengers of Falmouth’s trains last week thanks to two students.

Mabel Carrier and Jaz Virgo, third year graphic designers at Falmouth University, wanted to bring joy to local commuters and train users by brightening up Falmouth Town Train Station.

They invited passengers to take 20 minutes out of their day to make a pom pom, with all the creations then put on display at the station.

The pair said: “We aimed to bring back the tradition of craft, which is in decrease in a now digital society.

“The 20 minutes of mindfulness while making a pom pom helped to take people out of their day-to-day mundane routines.”

Each pom pom created was displayed with a ticket label, to give an insight into who made it and where.

Passengers were also encouraged to take a pom pom with them on their journey.

Anyone who finds a pom pom on their next journey is encouraged to move it to their end destination and post it on Instragram using the tag #Join-It to see how far they travel.

The students are hoping that the Join-Knit movement will continue to spread across the UK.
