For the wives and girlfriends of Culdrose Military Wives Choir the premiere of a new film has hit home more than most.

Monday saw the launch of Military Wives, starring Kristin Scott Thomas and Sharon Horgan, inspired by the story of how the first military wives choir was formed by a group of women while their partners were on a tour of Afghanistan.

Now the members of the Helston choir, one of 75 offshoots of the original and the only branch in Cornwall, are preparing for a special charity screening of the film next Friday, March 6 at Redruth's Regal Cinema.

The evening will include a live performance from Culdrose Military Wives, for which tickets are available at hredruth.merlincinemas.co.uk/film/55090-charity-screening-of-military-wives-plus-live-on-stage-culdrose-military-wives-choir, with £2 from every ticket going to the Military Wives Choirs charity.

Melinda King, from the choir, said: “We are extremely excited about the film that tells the special story of where this unique and wonderful phenomenon began.

"It’s a story of community, of women supporting each other through the most difficult of times, which we are sure will resonate with so many beyond the military community.

“As Cornwall’s only branch of the international network, we wanted to offer a combined event where local people can watch the film and enjoy a live performance from the real military wives of Culdrose Military Wives Choir, in support of our charity, and we hope to see a full audience.”

And the verdict from choir members of the new film? "We absolutely loved Military Wives. It was so real - and pretty raw for many of us - it truly captured the essence of 'stronger together'."
