Cadets from City of Truro Sea and Royal Marine Cadets, based at TS Pellew, visited the Falmouth Pilot Cutter Pellew at Rhoda Mary Shipyard also in Newham,Truro.

She is being built in a traditional environment teaching ship building skills. Cadets were able to talk to the team about the methods used and how the Pellew is being crafted.

Pellew is due to be launched in Falmouth on Saturday.

City of Truro Sea and Royal Marine Cadets are based a TS Pellew, Riverside House, Heron Way,Truro. Cadets can join at 10 years of age and progress through until they achieve their 18th birthday.

Cadet activities range from sailing, kayaking, rowing and acquiring recognised RYA qualifications, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, orienteering, map reading, camping, and a host of qualifications including First Aid, catering, seamanship and meteorology.

Cadets enjoy learning in a non-standard scenario-classroom and practical-in a safe supported environment.​ They are encouraged to take the lead and organise themselves and their peers.

Cadets are expected to learn and demonstrate self-discipline, communication skills, team skills and awareness and to take pride in a job well done.
