IT IS nine years since football legend Tony Kellow passed away and family and friends attended a laying of a wreath bedside the Tony Kellow Memorial Stone on Sunday in Budock Water.

Tony grew up in the village and went on to play more than 400 games in the football league.

In 1981/2 he won the Golden Boot for being the top goalscorer in all four divisions.

Before joining Exeter City he had scored prolifically for Penzance and Falmouth Town in non league football.

Exeter paid Falmouth Town £1,000 down and 10 per cent of any sell-on, which allowed Falmouth Town a huge bonus when he was transferred from Exeter to Blackpool for £125,000. That was a record fee for Blackpool at the time.

He returned to Exeter City having scored regularly for Blackpool (almost a goal every other game).

Eventually he returned to his home village of Budock Water where he sadly passed away aged just 58.
