Fire crews, an ambulance and police all rushed to Porthleven this evening after a vehicle got stuck in flood water with its occupant trapped inside.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said its Critical Control centre received a call from police reporting a vehicle in flood water with a person trapped inside in Torleven Road at around 7.10pm.

Crews from Helston and Hayle Community Fire Stations were sent to the scene, along with Water Rescue Units from Falmouth and St Austell Community Fire Stations.

A Station Manager and Water Incident Manager were also sent to the incident, along with an ambulance.

A fire service spokesperson said: "On arrival the first crews located the vehicle and found it to be stuck in approximately 18 inches of water.

"Water Rescue Technicians from Falmouth Community Fire Station made their way to the vehicle and assisted with the recovery of the vehicle.

"Crews assessed the casualty and determined that an ambulance was no longer required.

"The Water Rescue Unit from St Austell Community Fire Station and the Water Incident Manager were also stood down."

Torleven Road in Porthleven has since been closed by police, as it is impassable with flood water and Cormac will be attending to put further road closures in place, the fire service said.
