Eating a traditional Cornish pasty and having fish and chips at Land’s End are among the most popular bucket list experiences in the UK, according to a hotel chain.

The findings have been revealed in a new travel report by Travelodge, which has seven hotels in Cornwall.

Trying a traditional pasty was the 20th most popular bucket list experience overall.

Eating fish and chips at Land’s End was 50th on the list and surfing in Newquay was also a favourite bucket list experience, but was just outside the top 50.

Travelodge surveyed 2,000 British adults to seek their views on having a bucket list.

Further research findings revealed:

- 53% of British adults have made a New Year’s resolution to start a UK bucket list in 2020.

- The average Briton’s UK bucket list consists of 22 experiences and will take around nine years to accomplish.

- Over a third (35 per cent) of Britons think having a bucket list is a good idea as it encourages them to try new things.

- Over a fifth (21 per cent) of Britons reported having a bucket list helps them to achieve their goals in life.

- A fifth (20 per cent) of Britons reported that they have a joint bucket list with their partner as it enables them to spend quality time together.

The research also revealed that 45 per cent of Britons' UK bucket list has been inspired from their childhood and includes experiences that they have wanted to try since they were a child. More than a quarter (28 per cent) of adults reported that they get their bucket list inspiration from their friend’s stories on Instagram.

Britons' top 50 list of bucket list activities are dominated by exploring Britain’s countryside, experiencing some of the UK’s greatest train journeys and indulging in its finest food.

This includes exploring picturesque rural locations such as the Scottish Highlands, the Peak District, the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. As well as, walking Hadrian’s Wall and climbing Ben Nevis.

Shakila Ahmed, Travelodge spokesperson, said: “It is not surprising that so many of Cornwall’s popular attractions and experiences have made Briton’s bucket list. Our seven hotels in Cornwall attract visitors from all corners of the globe to try out local delicacies.

"Therefore Britons do not want to miss out on these wonderful experiences and have them on their bucket list.

“The revival of the Staycation and the start of a new decade have probably inspired Britons to put pen to paper and start a bucket list detailing the activities they have always wanted to experience at home. The UK offers a plethora of amazing experiences to try from John O’Groats to Land’s End and it’s interesting that Britons bucket lists are dominated by exploring Britain’s glorious countryside, experiencing some of the UK’s greatest train journeys and indulging in our finest food.”
