Residents of Penryn are invited to comment on the town's neighbourhood plan when consultation starts on Saturday.

The plan will give people more of a say in making decisions on key development and conservation issues affecting the town.

It can be viewed at planforpenryn.co.uk now or at the library on Saturday and residents will have six weeks to share their views before the plan is submitted to Cornwall Council.

There will be a launch event at Penryn Library from 10am until 2pm on Saturday.

Neighbourhood plan group chair councillor Becky McSorley said: "We are very excited to have reached the stage where our plan is now ready for consultation with the wider community.

"We hope that everyone will give their comments so that we can ensure that the neighbourhood plan accurately reflects what the members of our community want going forwards for our historic town.

"We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has been involved with the development of the plan so far."

The plan sets out proposals and policies for a range of issues and focuses on housing and managing student accommodation, protecting green spaces including College Valley, preserving the town's heritage and responding to climate change.

The plan has to comply with national and county-wide policies but gives the town the chance to lead on many issues as it will eventually carry significant weight in the planning process.

As well as being made available at planforpenryn.co.uk, on Saturday there will also be a hard copy in the library.

There will also be presentations throughout the six weeks of consultation, and if the neighbourhood plan is supported by residents it will be submitted to Cornwall Council for further consultation before undergoing an independent examination, and finally put to the people of Penryn in a referendum.
