A free, interactive show by a Falmouth composer is touring the county.

Pagan Pandemonium is billed as "An interactive history lesson about ancient Cornish/British folklore customs and rituals, explored through the medium of a Japanese game show.

"Think Takeshi’s Castle meets The Wicker Man."

Created by Seamas Carey who runs Falmouth choir Men Are Singing, Pagan Pandemonium will feature plenty of audience participation with members of the crowd invited to play games and sing songs with the cast.

Comments and reactions from the audience will shape the future of the show, which is still in its infancy.

Seamas said: "Cornwall is full of weird and wonderful traditions. If born here, you grow up with an unavoidable awareness of these customs. Festivals roll on year in - year out. They mark the passing of time, they welcome in a change of season, they remind us who we are and act as community healing.

"Yet do we really know what they mean, or how they’ve changed over time to suit our purposes?"

The shows take place at:

  • St Just Town Hall - Saturday January 11
  • Helston, Godolphin Club, Wednesday January 15
  • Bodmin, The Old Library, Thursday January 16
  • Redruth, Kresen Kernow, Friday January 17
  • Falmouth Rugby Club - Saturday January 18

All of the shows start at 7.30pm and are open to all. Pagan Pandemonium is supported by the Arts Council England, FEAST, Cornwall Heritage Trust, Cornwall Council, Kresen Kernow, CAST and Bristol Old Vic.
