A longstanding Helston eyesore's estate agent has confirmed that the building has not been sold despite signs going up suggesting it had.

Posters were put up last week saying "This site has been acquired by Cornish Deals.com Ltd." Visitors to the web page were greeted with the message "Helston site opening 2020!" which has now been removed.

A spokesperson for Truro-based estate agent SBC Property said that a sale has not yet been made and that they have not been in contact with the company.

The Cornish Deals website is part of an Amazon affiliate advertising programme, meaning that its owner receives a percentage of sales made by buyers who arrive at the Amazon site by following links on cornishdeals.com.

'Cornish Deals' is not listed on Companies House and there are no contact details for the site's owner available.

The Packet was unable to contact the estate agent last week due to Christmas holiday closures, but today they have confirmed that a sale has not been made.

The former Co-op and Budgens building has been empty since March 2017 when the latter company closed after just eight months of trading.

It had been due for auction in May with a guide price of £400,000 but was withdrawn at the last minute to allow talks between SBC Property and a possible buyer, which ultimately fell through.

The building has fallen into an increasing state of disrepair.
