Runners were told to get on their marks, get set and ho ho ho on Sunday when the Santa Fun Run came to Helston.

The fundraising event for Cornwall Hospice Care saw around 100 runners of all ages and abilities complete a 1.5-mile route around the town.

A festive warm up took place at Monument Walk, next the Grylls Monument, got participants ready for the 1pm race start.

Unfortunately the starting countdown coincided with the exact moment a torrential rain shower hit the town, leading to a wet beginning for the runners.

Unfazed, however, there were still plenty of smiles as the race got underway - and even more as runners returned back to the Helston Bowling Club, following the circular course, for a mince pie and their finisher's medal.

Sponsorship money from the runners will support the charity's work with terminally ill patients around Cornwall and the county's adult hospices of St Julia's in Hayle and Mount Edgcumbe in St Austell.
