A Falmouth nursery which vowed to fight an "inadequate" Ofsted rating has now been graded "good".

Happy Days Nursery and Preschool Falmouth, in Jubilee Road, received its inspection last month and was rated as "good" in all four areas of inspection.

The report said: “Staff support children's communication and language skills effectively.

"They interact well with the children and get down to their level. Staff working with older children use questioning skilfully to encourage children's thinking skills and give them the time that they need to answer questions.

“Children of all ages are very happy and settled at the nursery. They enjoy the company of the caring and untiring staff and build close bonds with their key person, who supports their emotional well-being effectively.”

“The very successful key person system effectively contributes to children settling in to the nursery quickly. Staff looking after babies and toddlers tend to their personal needs well, which helps to develop a strong attachment and builds children's confidence and sense of well-being successfully.

“Since the last inspection, the provider has made significant improvements."

The four areas of inspection are:

* Effectiveness of the leadership and management

* Quality of teaching, learning and assessment

* Personal development, behaviour and welfare

* Outcomes for children.

Inspection activities included observing areas used by the children, inside and outside, and engagement between the staff and the children.

The report added: “The provider, manager and staff have a secure understanding and knowledge of how to keep children safe.

"They can recognise the signs and symptoms which may be a cause for concern and know what action to take if necessary. Staff have good knowledge about wider safeguarding issues.”

Earlier in the year the nursery was visited by Ofsted and given the judgement of "inadequate", but five months on it has turned this judgement around.

Nursery manager Aimee Green said: “Myself and the team at Falmouth are thrilled to have achieved a ‘Good’ rating following our recent inspection.

"We have all worked extremely hard since the previous inspection to ensure that we achieved the grading that we deserve.

"It has been a very tough five months for us all and I would like to thank the parents and staff for their continued support with the nursery.”
