Revised plans for an apartment hotel which looks to increase the number of apartments are set to be decided tomorrow.

The hotel planned for the Una Resort at Carbis Bay was originally granted planning permission in 2018.

But now the plans have returned and been amended to increase the number of apartment suites from 42 to 55.

The original plans were part of a wider development at the site which also includes 92 holiday villas and various leisure facilities.

Explaining the decision to amend the plans the applicants state “the proposed alterations to the hotel predominately relate to internal alterations to the hotel to make more efficient use of the approved space. The additional units will also aid delivery viability following a period of significant build cost inflation”.

A number of other adjustments have also been made to the plans including the removal of roof terraces.

Planning officers have recommended that Cornwall Council’s west sub-area planning committee should grant planning permission when it meets to discuss the proposals on Monday.

St Ives Town Council has submitted a “strongest possible objection” to the plans and requested that the application go to committee for decision.

The town council was concerned that the increase in apartments will result in more traffic and pose parking problems, saying that the access road to the resort is “highly unsuitable”.

Planning officers state in their report that the applicant has proposed increasing the number of parking spaces on the site and has plans for a shuttle bus service for staff and guests which could be an alternative to travelling by car.

The development is part of Kingfisher Resorts’ £25 million plans for the former caravan park which was on the site.

As well as new accommodation there are plans for the luxury resort to have swimming pools, sports facilities and restaurants which would also be open to local residents.

The west sub-area planning committee is due to meet on Monday (November 18) to decide the application.
