A parade and service on Sunday saw Porthleven paying its respects to those who had lost their life in battle.

The procession gathered at Porthleven Public Hall at 2.15pm to make its way to St Bartholomew's Church for a 2.30pm service of remembrance.

Afterwards, the parade continued on to the war memorial in Peverell Terrace, led by Porthleven Town Band and including mayor Bev Plunkett and town councillors, plus veterans and the port's Brownies and Guides groups.

Here there was the sounding of the Last Post and a two-minute silence, followed by a wreath laying ceremony.

Among the guests for the commemoration were Duko, a retired injured war dog, and Frederick Bender, whose mother was born in Porthleven, and who travelled from the USA in an 8,000-odd mile round trip to be part of the occasion, at which he played the bagpipes.

There was also an act of remembrance at the war memorial this morning, for Armistice Day itself, at 11am.
