Falmouth School held its annual GCSE Art and Design exhibition this week showcasing the best of students' work.

A gallery was set up in the main reception area displaying a diverse range of creative and technical art, and work from the new GCSE photography course.

Visitors voted on their favourite work and awards were presented by a special guest: the mayor of Falmouth councillor Steve Eva, who was impressed with the standard of work.

Despite the weather and the lure of trick or treating, the evening was superbly attended. Visitors enjoyed viewing the work on display and the feedback was hugely positive.

Visitors voted on their favourite work and the GCSE Art Technical Award was won jointly by both Matilda McLeod for her piece 'Presidency' and Reuben Talbot for 'Reflections,' while Freddie Reid picked up the GCSE Art Creative Award for his painting 'Birds'.

The A-Level Art Technical Award was won by Will Phillip for his photographic series and Merryn Peters received the A Level Art Creative Award for her series of paintings 'Disconnection'.

Town mayor councillor Steve Eva spoke about how impressed he was with the students' work. A school spokesperson said: "It was a privilege to have such a distinguished guest attend in support of our students and speak to celebrate their work.

"Congratulations to these students for their success but also to all the other students who were nominated in these categories as the standard of work was excellent overall."

Billie Lee-Smith, head of art, said: "This exhibition showcases the imaginative artistic talent of our students in the field of Art and Photography.

"Our students are highly creative and are given opportunities here at Falmouth School to reflect through their work: individuality, interests and expression.

"Skills that are inherent in developing our young people throughout their lives.

"I am very proud of our students’ success and the hard work that they put into achieving their full potential in this creative area with the help of their teachers.

"The exhibition is an opportunity to show off their hard work but also to inspire others with their creativity and skills.

"The quality of work improves every year and that this year’s exhibition is reflective of the very high examination success of the year group. This is something that we celebrate and will continue to build on."

The exhibition will remain displayed in the school foyer into the next term and if any member of the public wishes to view the exhibition they can do so by contacting the school.
