A Penryn College student has sadly passed away.

Police were called to a property in Helland Gardens yesterday morning where the child was declared deceased. The death is not thought to be suspicious.

A spokesperson for the college said: “On the morning of Thursday 31 October, we learned of the sudden death of one of our students.

"We are deeply shocked and saddened by this news.

"The individual was a valued member of our school community and will be greatly missed by staff and peers alike.

"Our thoughts are with the individual’s family and friends during this difficult time.”

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at 8am today to a property in Helland Gardens, Penryn following reports of concern for the welfare for a child within the property.

"Emergency services attended the scene and the child was sadly declared deceased.

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained but is not thought to be suspicious.

"This is a desperately sad and tragic incident for everyone involved and our thoughts are with the child’s family and friends at this difficult time.

"Police enquires remain ongoing at this time."
