A Scouting group founded 95 years ago is in danger of closing if a new leader is not found.

Lavinia Holden, the current cub Scout leader of the 2nd Falmouth All Saints Scout Group, is hanging up her woggle after 33 years of dedicated service.

The group is keen to find a new leader so that the 14 cubs can carry on learning important life skills.

Full training will be provided as will mentorship from other Scout leaders in the area.

Clint Lanyon, chairman of Cornwall Scout Council, said that previous Scouting experience is less important that enthusiasm.

He said: "They don't necessarily have to be a rock climbing instructor. We're looking for someone who is a good communicator and who likes working with young people."

The group currently provides scouting for six to 14-year-old boys and girls in the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

They are very active with regular camps and activities inside and outside of the meeting hall.

Over the years they have been camping many times, highlights being the first ever County Cub Camp held at Hendra Park in Newquay and a Cub Jamboree at the home of Scouting at Gillwell Park in Chelmsford.

Mr Lanyon added: "Scouting exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, giving them a powerful sense of belonging and empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.

"As Scouts, everyone’s welcome here. We welcome all genders, races and backgrounds. Every week we work with 6-14 year olds to develop the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams – the skills they need for life."

The pack currently meets at The Laburnham Hall, on Fridays from 6pm until 7.30pm. For more information or an informal chat contact clintlanyon@gmail.com or 07771 804088.
