There is "chaos" on the roads this morning due to the closure of the main road between Falmouth and Truro.

A fallen tree has meant traffic is unable to travel along the A39 between the Treluswell Roundabout and the Carnon Gate Roundabout just outside of Devoran.

The road has been closed in both directions.

Traffic is having to find alternative routes around Bissoe and Perranwell, leading to congestion on the smaller backroads.

One driver on social media described the roads as "chaos."

A spokesperson for Cornwall Council said: "We've had to close the A39 between Treluswell and Devoran roundabout on an emergency basis to facilitate the safe felling of an unstable mature tree.

"It is anticipated the road will remain closed for the next four to five hours to allow the tree to be felled and subsequent removal/tidying work.

"We have hard closures in place at Treluswell and Devoran Gate as well as either side of the work site near the Norway Inn.The diversion route is via the A393, A30, A390 and vice versa.

"Please avoid the area if at all possible as the emergency closure will likely result in significant disruption to the surrounding minor road network."

UPDATE: The road has now been cleared and reopened.
