It is still best known to many people as Clotworthys and now the former men's outfitters is being given a new lease of life dressing women.

From the New Year the shop in Helston, which in more recent years was run as PDQ Estate Agents and is currently a furniture and second hand store, will become the new home of the Bridal Studio.

Owner Tara Trethowan, who took over the business in 2015 from founder Christine Woods, said she was excited about the chance to expand both the range of bridal wear and accessories and also the range of Flora Day dresses.

Fittingly, for one of the main suppliers of dresses for the Midday Dance, its new position will be almost directly opposite the Guildhall where the dance begins.

Tara said: "The move offers us a much bigger boutique with three times as much space, allowing for more changing rooms too.

"This is a very exciting time for us.

"Our current boutique is amazing and has allowed us to build and grow our business; we will be sad to leave but very excited for our future."

She went on to say that there was a lot of building working that needed to be completed before the new store could open its doors, but she hoped to be welcoming the first customers there by the end of January.

In the meantime, business would carry on as normal from Wendron Street.

It many ways it will mean the business will come full circle, having originally been based in a first floor shop in Coinagehall Street when it opened in 2008, before moving to the larger premises in Wendron Street - the former Bassetts shop - six years later.

Now it has outgrown that store too, with its new home at 14 Coinagehall Street its largest premises yet.

Clotworthys was opened on Flora Day in 1963 by Roger Clotworthy. It changed its name to Roger Cee Menswear in 1979 before closing down on Christmas Eve 1987.
