Classic cars paraded through Cornwall to salute the fallen of World War Two on Thursday.

The Classic 75 D-Day Gardens Rally set off from Trebah Gardens to launch this year's poppy appeal.

Trebah was a fitting start for the rally as it played an important part in the Normandy Landings in 1944.

The drive covered a distance of 75 miles symbolising the 75th anniversary of Operation Neptune, or D-Day.

Organiser and Royal British Legion fundraiser Annie Binding said: "What a good humoured and lovely day was experienced by all at our 98th Poppy Appeal Launch.

"It was a completely wonderful vision to see 46 gleaming beautiful cars – vintage and classic - pitch up with their drivers to herald the start of the 98th Poppy Appeal here in Cornwall.

"The Classic 75 D-Day Gardens Vintage Rally was truly amazing and served as a right and proper final salute to the generation who made our fun and frivolity possible.”

Annie went on to say: “Whilst I organised the Rally, it would not have been possible to run the event without our lovely volunteers and the truly amazing team at Trebah Garden.

"They were just so completely supportive and nothing was too much trouble. They made my life so much easier and gave a truly warm welcome to our drivers and passengers.”

Drivers wended their way through Cornwall from Trebah Gardens to end up at the final destination of Mount Edgcumbe Country Park in Torpoint.
