Twenty students and two staff from Tilburg in The Netherlands travelled to Cornwall for a week-long trip hosted by Camborne Science and International Academy.

“This new Geography-based exchange, aimed at new year nine GCSE students, was designed to improve the geographical knowledge of both students from CSIA, as well as our visitors,” said Miss Kathryn Finn, Head of Geography at CSIA. “It was an incredibly worthwhile trip and it was a privilege to welcome our Dutch friends to Cornwall to showcase what a beautiful part of the world we live in.”

All the students who took part in the exchange will pay a visit to Tilburg in March 2020.

“Our students are already very excited about the return trip, where they will be staying with local families and learn all about how Dutch students go about their daily lives. This is invaluable for broadening our students’ horizons and helping them to become open-minded young people with global perspectives.”

Whilst in Cornwall, Dutch students and their buddies from Camborne completed a project and presentation on coastlines, visited Marazion and St Michael’s Mount, and spent many fun-filled days with their host families.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to our families who all went out of their way to show our visitors our amazing county and the every-day lives of a Cornish family,” said Miss Finn. “The Geography department and the International Team at CSIA are extremely proud of the students who took part in this first leg of the exchange and are very much looking forward to the return journey to Holland.”

“I really enjoyed welcoming the Dutch students, it was so much fun showing them how we live here in Cornwall," said year nine student Harrison Troon.

“I loved making so many new friends and I’m already counting down the days until we visit Holland,” said Bonnie-May Gruber, also in year 9.

CSIA’s International Programme offers a combination of exchanges and collaborations, with visits to various countries including America, Singapore, Australia, Japan and Thailand to name just a few.

“Our expanding global network makes exchanges like this possible. It’s fantastic to see our young people so excited to show off Cornwall and the school in which they attend” added Ian Kenworthy, Principal at CSIA. “We’re very proud to offer exchanges to our students and we look forward to many more exciting adventures this year.”
