A Falmouth police constable says there has been "no significant rise in crime or disorder" since university students returned from their summer holidays last month.

PC Matt Cummins delivered the news at a Falmouth Town Council meeting on Monday.

Autumn term for second and third year Falmouth University and University of Exeter students started on Monday September 23 this year.

New students arrived on September 16 for fresher's week events.

There have been tensions between students and long-term residents of the two towns in the past.

In March 2018, a group calling itself 'Falmouth Hates Students' sent a letter to the Packet offices threatening to make the town a "no-go zone" for students.

In April this year, the Packet received another letter alleging to be from the same group which claimed that students were responsible for breaking the law by having bonfires on Gyllyngvase beach.
