An 11-year-old has been transferred for specialist care in Bristol after receiving "potentially life-changing injuries" when she was hit by a car. 

Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage of the collision, which took place in Redruth at around 1pm yesterday. 

The incident happened on the B3300 Falmouth Road, near to the junction with Treruffe Hill.

A police spokesperson said initially: "The local girl suffered potentially life-changing injuries and was taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Treliske."

Police have since given an update to say that overnight the girl and her father were flown by coastguard helicopter to Bristol Royal Infirmary, where she remians, receiving specialist care and treatment.

"Her condition is described as stable and her injuries are still being treated as life-changing," added the spokesperson. 

Local police officers and specialists from the Roads Policing Team attended the scene, closed the road and launched a full forensic examination.

Police have now asked witnesses or anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward, unless they have already been in contact with officers at the scene.
