A young girl has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car this lunchtime.

Police say the 11-year-old has "serious injuries" following the collision in Redruth at around 1pm.

Emergency services were called to the junction between Falmouth Road and Treruffe Hill, with the collision taking place near to the Co-op supermarket.

The main road towards Redruth town centre was closed for more than two hours, between Farnham Hill and Treruffe Hill, along with the top end of Falmouth Road.

The road has now re-opened, but traffic sensors show that some delays remain due to the build up of vehicles.

A police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 1pm today following reports of a collision between a car and an 11-year-old girl on the junction between Falmouth Road and Treruffe Hill, Redruth.

"Ambulance also attended the scene and the girl has been taken to hospital with serious injuries."
