A Falmouth hotel is offering a free pint to anyone who takes part in a beach clean in their second event this year.

The Greenbank Hotel and Sharp's Brewery are inviting people to get involved on Friday October 25 from 11am to 1pm on Greenbank Beach just behind the hotel.

Everyone over the age of 18 who takes part will be offered a free pint of Working Boat Ale, brewed by Sharp's, as a thank you for their efforts.

The clean is part of Surfers Against Sewage's Summit to Sea Autumn Beach Clean campaign.

After the success of their first beach clean in April, the hotel is keen to make it a regular event.

Sharp's Brewery is also a big supporter of local beaches having donated more than £42,000 to help fund Cornish Blue Flag and Seaside Awards applications.

Greenbank Hotel's marketing executive Emma Cowley said: "We were so encouraged by our Spring Beach Clean in April this year, where we welcomed over fifty volunteers and collected 13 massive bags of waste.

"It was a real community effort, with lots of families, familiar faces, students, staff and tourists alike all getting involved to keep our beach spotless.

"The Greenbank beach is an interesting one as it’s not the usual plastic items that are washed up – during each beach clean we’ve held previously, there are always some obscure unexpected finds, including wellies, tyres, fishing nets, traffic cones, sardine tins and even rusty old sinks!

“We’re looking forward to welcoming lots of lovely volunteers to our Autumn Beach Clean and are chuffed that the team at Sharp’s are able to support us again. We’re on such a huge drive at The Greenbank and The Working Boat to eradicate the use of plastics throughout the hotel and to do our bit for our environment.

"Cornwall’s beautiful beaches and coastline are so important to us and it’s encouraging that the Greenbank team all share the same ethos.”

Marketing controller at Sharp’s Brewery, James Nicholls said: “With our brewery situated near the coast in Rock, taking care of our beaches and coastline is really important to us. It’s fantastic to see the public getting together and supporting initiatives like the ‘Summit to Sea Autumn Beach Clean’ and we’re thrilled to be working alongside The Greenbank Hotel and the community of Falmouth again to keep our beaches in pristine condition.”

Volunteers for the beach clean should meet at The Working Boat Pub, situated within the hotel, on Friday October 25 at 11am to receive a pre-clean safety briefing; the clean is expected to last until 1pm.

All equipment will be provided but participants are encouraged to wear suitable clothing and footwear. Beach cleaners over the age of 18 will be offered a pint of Working Boat Ale post-clean (or a soft drink), whilst the under 18s will get a soft drink of their choice.

Taking part in the beach clean is free but please register your interest by emailing marketing@greenbank-hotel.co.uk so the team has an idea of turnout numbers.
