A charity fun day and community music event will take over Falmouth this weekend as the Skate Fete gets under way.

Throughout the day, Kimberley Park will be full of music, demonstrations from professional skateboarders, and food stalls – all in the name of a good cause.

Then, in the evening, a wide range of music events will be held in multiple venues throughout the town – including Fives, Black Dog Haircutters, and Falmouth Rugby Club.

The event has been organised by a team of fundraisers hoping to gather the last money necessary to build an Olympic-class skate park in the town.

A spokesperson said: “We’re excited for Saturday, it’s been a long time in planning and we’re thankful for how well the project has been received.

“So many people have donated their time, talents, and energy completely for free – all so that we can raise money for the skatepark.”

On Saturday the team will be giving away prizes from the raffle, which have been kindly donated by local organisations.

Amazing prizes have been donated by Finisterre, Allen and Heath, St Michael’s Hotel and Spa, Ships and Castles, Brothers Pizza, or the Falmouth Reggae Festival – amongst others.

Tickets are still available until Saturday, and are available at £1 a ticket/£5 a strip from both Freeriders and Sessions Surf and Skate Falmouth until Saturday.

Then, in the evening, a huge community effort amongst local promoters, DJs and musicians has created the town-wide takeover in multiple venues.

Events will be held at Falmouth Rugby Club, Jacobs Ladder, Fives, Bahama Mamas, Toast, Jagos Bar, Boathouse, Beerwolf, Killigrew Inn, Black Dog Haircutters. Check the event page Skate Fete 2019 to see events for all venues.

At Falmouth Rugby Club, local DJ heroes and international heartthrobs Hong Kong Ping Pong will be headlining, supported by Earthnut, and the event is hosted by the Kurnel MC. Tickets are just £10.

At Jacobs Ladder; Bristol based Migraines will be leading the show, with a junglist second room curated by James Bass aka. You aint no junglist.

In Fives, there will be music from up-and-coming producer CONTXT, alongside Omoo, Oh Mr James, Hockeysmith, Terry Bliss, Seamouse, beats, ambient, electronic.

And Black Dog Haircutters will play host to a Hip Hop night with music from Ryan Yeo, Vincent Vega, DJ Reda.

The proposed skate park for Falmouth will be located on Dracaena Avenue, next to the Dracaena centre.

Featuring quarter pipes, half pipes, rails, lips and steps – this could be potentially the first Olympic standard skate park to be built in the UK.

Designed by Mavericks Skateparks, in consultation with The Falmouth Skatepark Project, it looks set to be a ground breaking design which should keep all the riders of different ages and skills happy.

The event on Kimberly Park will be free, with people will be on hand with donation buckets to accept charitable offerings.

Also stall and food vendors will all be making donations from some of their takings towards the fund.

The spokesperson added: “We would like to thank all the hard working, professional, and talented individuals who have donated their time to this event.

“Without them this wouldn’t have been possible, and we’re glad so many others have shared our vision of creating something for Falmouth that will benefit many future generations.”
