One man has died and a second is fighting for his life following a head-on collision in east Cornwall.

A Mini and a Lexus collided just before 5.30pm yesterday, between Hallworthy and Launceston.

One driver was confirmed to have died at the scene, while the other was airlifted to Derriford Hospital with life threatening injuries.

A police spokesperson said: "A blue Mini motor car was travelling from the direction of Hallworthy towards Launceston on the A395, when it would appear the vehicle has crossed into the path of an oncoming silver coloured Lexus motor car, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

"The male driver of the Mini sustained serious injuries and was recognised as deceased at the scene.

"The driver of the Lexus sustained injuries that were described as life threatening and was conveyed by air ambulance to Derriford Hospital, where he remains receiving treatment.

"His front seat passenger received minor injuries.

"Family members are being notified of the collision."

Specially trained police officers from both Devon and Cornwall carried out a collision investigation and anyone who saw what happened in the moments leading up to the crash is asked to call 101 and quote the incident number 20190927 – 0684.
