Noise at unsociable hours, dust and blocked driveways from a student accommodation development have almost driven some residents out of a Falmouth street.

Residents of Falmouth's Pendennis Rise, opposite the Ocean Bowl site, say that builders from URBN Construction have been working outside of their allocated times of 8am to 6pm.

On August 26 builders allegedly worked through the night without stopping until 4.30am. Work also went on during bank holidays, residents said.

URBN Construction did not respond to the Packet's request for a comment.

Charlotte Mitchell, 76, spoke about the effect the construction work had had on her home life and income from her Airbnb.

She said: "People don't realise how much it affects you. It's taken away my home; that's it in a nutshell. I have a house but I don't have a home.

"My life's been consumed for the last three years [since plans were approved]. I've been waking up in the night thinking 'how could this happen?'"

Bryony Mirfin, another resident, said that she overheard one of the builders saying that the project is 'never going to be ready on time'.

She said: "Students are coming back in three weeks and they're desperate. It's not really our problem; we shouldn't have to put up with it. We've had no peace.

"They've been doing it for the last few weekends. It's stressful because it's constant dust as well, I haven't been able to put my washing out."

A third resident who did not want to be named said: "We are almost at our wits' end. We're thinking about renting somewhere else."

Resident Charlotte Mitchell says that the noise has become so bad that she may seek compensation for the loss of income from her Airbnb.
