Coastguards from Falmouth were called out to a rescue more than 40 miles away when three people became stuck in mud.
As the only coastguard mud rescue team in Cornwall, the Falmouth volunteers can be sent anywhere - as proven on Saturday when they were asked to help out near Lostwithiel.
Three people had become stuck in mud at St Winnow, while on stand up paddle boards, but were still 30 metres from the shore.
The Falmouth team were scrambled along with water rescue units from St Austell Community Fire Station and Falmouth Fire Station.
Also called to provide support were crews from Lostwithiel and Bodmin fire stations, and the duty coastguard area commander.
In the end, fire crews used mud mats and lines to help the stranded trio back to shore.
The Falmouth coastguard team members were stood down as they arrived on scene.
A spokesperson for Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team said: "Although this incident is well out of out local area, as the only coastguard mud rescue team in Cornwall, we will attend any mud or quicksand rescue in the coastal area.
"As ever, if you are, or see anyone, stuck in coastal mud, dial 999 ans ask for 'coastguard'."
